OzHarvest Petition

OzHarvest is a fabulous charity based on reducing waste from all sectors of the food chain.

Founded by Ronni Kahn almost 20 years ago after being frustrated with the enormous food waste her events company was producing, she found a way to pass on this perfect food onto charities to feed people in need. She became the food rescuer, the middle person, a broker, so to speak.

Fast forward, OzHarvest has offices in all Australian capital cities and does amazing work and has staff of about 200.

Recently, she has stepped down from the CEO position of OzHarvest but is still very much involved in the business of tackling food waste. Like me, Ronni can see the current labelling regulations need a revision. This is only one of her initiatives she is championing- holding businesses accountable for their waste, a food waste tax at the farm level and rolling out the FOGO bins faster.

The best before date is not a throw away date. It means there maybe a slight change in the product but is still perfectly fine to eat. My Yellow Dragon changes from yellow to a brownish colour but is still tasty and safe to eat, as an example. Ronni has started a petition for clarity around the use by and best before system and to help reduce unnessassary food waste. See here for the petition and help send a message to our current government to stand up against food waste.
