Welcome to Small Batch Gourmet, a small business dedicated to crafting delicious, healthy, and sustainable food made from the freshest ingredients.

Each year in Australia over 7.6 million tons of edible food is being wasted of which much could be redistributed to feed families. That equates to around $2000 per household. (Foodbank). Change can happen at the grassroot level. That’s us in our own homes by not over purchasing food and looking past the perfect looking produce. You all know the drill.

To my knowledge, mother nature doesn’t have the blueprint for perfect shaped, sized and colour (too much colour, not enough colour) for fresh produce. What happens to this perfectly imperfect produce? What happens to the resources such as water, fertilizers, time and effort the farmers put into these crops? The farmers can’t just walk away from unsellable food and hope it disappears. They still must address its removal so new crops can be produced. Even if it is ploughed back into the ground, this comes with a time and energy cost.

This where Small Batch Gourmet steps in. I buy where I can, this beautiful produce that is wonky, misfit, small or large and turn it into delicious sauces and chutneys.
